I still buy a majority of my comics from Marvel and DC and it has been that way for many years but the fact of the matter is that fans want something more. They want something more grounded or relatable. They want something more dramatic and unique. You can only go so far with the major superheroes. Their followings are so big and there is such a control by editorial staffs over what you can do with some of these characters. That doesn’t make the work that comes out of DC and Marvel bad. It just is different with a publisher like Image. People who didn’t read comics because it was too ‘spande’” for them have been able to get into comics. They’ve been brought into this medium because of series like Rat Queens, Lazarus, Manhattan Projects and Saga….
The Eisner nominations also prove something else. Comics is no longer a boy’s club. I know every once in a while we see something that makes us think differently, but the fact of the matter is that comics is not a men only industry anymore. Women creators are all over the Eisner nominations this year. More than any year before. 2014 may be the year we see a woman win best writer. Kelly Sue DeConnick is a real contender and so are Emma Rios and Fiona Staples. Despite the still visible sexism in the industry…, there are more women reading and more women creat[ing] and they are finally being recognized. Their work reaches all readers, not just women. — Jess Camacho, Geek Out Nation, "Why This Year’s Eisner Nominations Mean So Much More Than Previous Years"

So proud of the Maximum Comics- exclusive cover for Burn the Orphanage: Reign of Terror #1 by the visionary Jeff Lemire! His interpretation of Rock is one of my favorites to date.
Expect to see me and Daniel back in Vegas at the beginning of May to support the new series, as we will definitely be back on the road promoting both the new series and the release of Volume One: Born to Lose.
