Writer Ed Brubaker talks about FATALE at Comics Alliance:

“I’ve been getting more interested in storytelling that has layers, I think. Two or three or more plotlines that weave around each other. And it seemed like a bigger challenge, to try to do three noir tales that are wound around a horror story examination of the idea of the femme fatale archetype. If you don’t challenge yourself in your writing, you don’t keep getting better. And I always want to try to push myself into doing things differently than I have before. I don’t always succeed, of course, but trying to tell a bigger more sprawling story seemed like it would at least be a more interesting challenge, even if I failed.”

Every week, Image Comics sends a newsletter about our upcoming releases to retailers with a letter at the beginning. This message, by Image Comics PR & Marketing Director Jennifer de Guzman was in the May 1, 2012 newsletter.

You know how writers sometimes get stuck, so they write a story about a writer with writers’ block? Please bear with me, because I’m afraid that’s what I’m doing this week.

When you’re in the grips of a block, facing a list of monthly comics fills you with something akin to awe. How do they do it? So many stories, so much creativity — but it’s not just about inspiration. It’s about being disciplined enough to write and draw every day, even though there’s no one paying you a salary or hourly wage.

And there’s another element that’s necessary to make comics — a certain amount of fearlessness. Or at least courage to face the fear of putting something you’ve created under the scrutiny readers and the judgment of critics.

There are four #1’s this month from Image Comics — MIND THE GAP #1, EPIC KILL #1, DANCER #1, and GRIM LEAPER #1 — each representing a creative team (or, in the case of EPIC KILL, a single writer/artist) who put their creativity, hard work, and courage toward making something new and sending it out into the world.

We’re proud to be a part of that.

A Look Inside Black Ops in THE ACTIVITY
Comic written with cooperation of members of U.S. Military & Intelligence

They do their work in secret, the goals of their missions and the discipline, teamwork, and skills needed to carry them out well out of the sight of the American public. However, on May 2, 2010, an elite team of Navy SEALs carried out Operation Neptune Spear, killing Osama bin Laden and launching “Black Ops” into the American consciousness.

Among the imaginations captured by these elite forces was that of Nathan Edmondson, a writer (WHO IS JAKE ELLIS, DANCER) who was inspired to create THE ACTIVITY, a comic book series that follows the lives of members of the special operations group Intelligence Support Activity. Drawn by Mitch Gerads (with guest issues by Marc Laming), THE ACTIVITY depicts the training and covert missions of Team Omaha within the real-life organization with glimpses of the “regular” lives they live where no one knows about their real jobs.

USA Today has an exclusive sneak-peek of ENORMOUS, the new graphic novella by Tim Daniel and Mehdi Cheggour, out in July from Shadowline and Image Comics!

“The original monster films came from the horrific notion of atomic power, but I was thinking, ‘What if the motivation was pure and good?’ ” Daniel says. “It was the whole idea that we need to save ourselves from ourselves, and we tried to do something good, and it just went horribly wrong.”
